SCORE needs bi-lingual mentors who can help aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners whose first language is not English by providing business expertise, support, and the necessary tools to help them reach their goals. As a mentor, you will use your industry-based knowledge and expertise to help clients solve problems, increase business efficiency, and assist with developing long-term business plans. Mentors often have significant experience within their field, excellent communication skills, and the ability to dedicate a few hours a week. Right now, minority entrepreneurs are facing unique barriers to business success. At SCORE, we’re working to change that by removing those obstacles and providing minority-owned businesses with access to personalized support in our SCORE for All program: to meet business owners where they are and help them reach their business goals. As a mentor you will use your industry-based knowledge and expertise to help clients solve problems, increase business efficiency, and assist with developing long-term business plans. Mentors often have significant experience within their field, excellent communication skills, and the ability to dedicate a few hours a week. As a Subject Matter Expert Mentors (SME), you would be an adjunct expert called in to provide specialized support and advice to assist a SCORE mentor when their client needs a deeper dive into a specific topic. Topics where minority-owned businesses need support include (but are not limited to): government contracting, minority business enterprise certification, finance, accounting, human resources management, website design, development, and webmaster skills; social media and digital marketing skills; taxation and specialized finance skills; IT infrastructure and cloud computing understanding and advice. If you have a few hours per month and want to share your specialized expertise with a local small business owner, become a SCORE Mentor or Subject Matter Expert. Our community continues to grow and become more diverse. We are seeking a Spanish speaking volunteer, who can assist with our clients where Spanish is their primary language. Ideally, we would like a volunteer with business experience, who can assist in mentoring clients. Also, we need someone who could be a translator working with another mentor. Currently this volunteer position works from home; We have been using zoom for many of our client meetings. This candidate will need their own computer and internet access. Expectations for time commitment will be varied, based on the need of the clients, but schedules are generally flexible. Training will be provided prior to start. Computer literacy necessary. Business owners frequently look for help in creating their websites and social media platforms. We are looking for a volunteer who is a subject matter expert in this area; this volunteer will work as a partner with a primary mentor who is providing general business advice to a business owner. This volunteer ideally should have experience in the basics of website design as well as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media programs. As volunteers, we provide guidance to our clients (business owners) but if they need specific work done, we refer them to our resource partners. Expectations for time commitment will be varied based on the needs of the client but schedules are flexible. Training will be provided prior to the start.

SCORE offers free and confidential mentoring for small business owners on Hilton Head, in Bluffton and in Beaufort. There are excellent volunteer opportunities to support SCORE mentoring with administrative services. One example, we need an administrator to assign new business mentoring requests to our mentors. Our administrators can work from home, using Internet-based systems to do the work. Join an organization that helps small businesses grow and create jobs. It's a terrific way to give back to your local community.
