Right now, minority entrepreneurs are facing unique barriers to business success. At SCORE, we’re working to change that by removing those obstacles and providing minority-owned businesses with access to personalized support in our SCORE for All program: to meet business owners where they are and help them reach their business goals. As a mentor you will use your industry-based knowledge and expertise to help clients solve problems, increase business efficiency, and assist with developing long-term business plans. Mentors often have significant experience within their field, excellent communication skills, and the ability to dedicate a few hours a week. As a Subject Matter Expert Mentors (SME), you would be an adjunct expert called in to provide specialized support and advice to assist a SCORE mentor when their client needs a deeper dive on a specific topic. Topics where minority-owned businesses need support include (but are not limited to): government contracting, minority business enterprise certification, finance, accounting, human resources management, website design, development, and webmaster skills; social media and digital marketing skills; taxation and specialized finance skills; IT infrastructure and cloud computing understanding and advice. If you have a few hours per month and want to share your specialized expertise with a local small business owner, become a SCORE Mentor or Subject Matter Expert. SCORE is a nonprofit resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration that helps aspiring and existing entrepreneurs succeed. Every year, our volunteers help thousands of entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of starting small businesses and achieving new levels of success. Volunteering is a way for you to give back, network with business experts, and share your knowledge. Join SCORE today to make a meaningful difference in your local economy. The impact of the pandemic has greatly increased the demand for SCORE mentor support to new and returning clients who have been affected by the dramatic changes in the operation of small businesses. Our clients are in need of help from experienced business people who understand the challenges of starting, pivoting and/or growing small businesses, both for profit and non-profit. While our core cadre of active mentors are available to help, the growth of demand drives the need for even more highly-qualified and motivated mentors. Because of the pandemic, most of our mentors are working strictly online, doing video sessions with clients; our office is closed; all chapter meetings are online; and, any face-to-face meetings require masks and social distancing. If you can share your expertise with our clients, we need your help in whatever number of hours you are able to offer. This is an incredibly rewarding and interesting volunteer opportunity. Please join us!
