SCORE Broward has a strong presence in Southeast Florida. We have developed excellent partnerships with federal, state, county, and local governments and municipalities as well as with other non-profits. Those partnerships enable us to reach deeper into our communities to better serve entrepreneurs and small business owners. The partnership program has grown to the point where its management and oversight is important. Additional management resources will ensure the flawless delivery of service, growth of the services offered, and the continued acquisition of new partners. A volunteer is needed for the position of Manager, Government and Community Relations. That volunteer will work with another volunteer who is the chapter's Vice Chair of Government and Community Relations. The work is mostly virtual. We use Zoom for meetings. All other communication is by phone or email. As the pandemic is easing we are starting to take some in-person meetings with government officials when everyone is comfortable with that. But the bulk of the work is virtual.

Right now, minority entrepreneurs are facing unique barriers to business success. At SCORE, we’re working to change that by removing those obstacles and providing minority-owned businesses with access to personalized support in our SCORE for All program: to meet business owners where they are and help them reach their business goals. As a mentor you will use your industry-based knowledge and expertise to help clients solve problems, increase business efficiency, and assist with developing long-term business plans. Mentors often have significant experience within their field, excellent communication skills, and the ability to dedicate a few hours a week. As a Subject Matter Expert Mentors (SME), you would be an adjunct expert called in to provide specialized support and advice to assist a SCORE mentor when their client needs a deeper dive on a specific topic. Topics where minority-owned businesses need support include (but are not limited to): government contracting, minority business enterprise certification, finance, accounting, human resources management, website design, development, and webmaster skills; social media and digital marketing skills; taxation and specialized finance skills; IT infrastructure and cloud computing understanding and advice. If you have a few hours per month and want to share your specialized expertise with a local small business owner, become a SCORE Mentor or Subject Matter Expert. Our chapter strives to be diverse and inclusive. 37% of our volunteers come from minority backgrounds. 36% are women entrepreneurs and business owners. SCORE is a nonprofit resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration that helps aspiring and existing entrepreneurs succeed. Every year, our volunteers help thousands of entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of starting small businesses and achieving new levels of success. Volunteering is a way for you to give back, network with business experts, and share your knowledge. Join SCORE today to make a meaningful difference in your local economy. SCORE Broward has been serving the entrepreneurs and small business owners in southeast Florida for 57 years. The COVID pandemic has resulted in a very successful migration of our business education program from classroom presentations to online webinars. We need a volunteer to help manage and coordinate that effort. Currently, SCORE Broward operates over 225 webinars a year - around 4 per week. There is a good infrastructure in place to handle the day to day execution of the program. We need management focus on the future scheduling, evaluations of new webinar proposals, oversight of the quality of existing presentations, coordination with the marketing, administrative, and accounting volunteers. Useful skills & talents: All our systems are online. So being comfortable and capable with using computers as a tool is very important. We use Zoom for the webinars and Constant Contact for email marketing of the webinars. Familiarity with those or other similar programs would be useful. Organization, attention to details, creativity, curiosity would find a good home here. Time commitment: 4-5 hours per week. No set schedule. Most volunteer interaction occur on weekdays

SCORE volunteers share their business acumen with their local community by leading educational workshops and seminars. For the past two years our delivery platform has been live online webinars using Zoom. Our business education is directed at entrepreneurs who are starting businesses as well as existing small business owners. We have been operating the program for over 12 years. We have partnership agreements with the cities of Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood, Hallandale Beach, Miramar, Oakland Park, Wilton Manors, Deerfield Beach, Hispanic Unity, and others to provide support and content to their economic development programs. As an online business education volunteer you can: Create and deliver specialized presentations to entrepreneurs and small business owners that reflect your area of expertise - sales, marketing, operations, HR, IT, etc. Deliver existing webinars that have already been developed Participate in roundtables or panel events If you are looking to give back or to support others by sharing your business knowledge, experience, and acumen this is a powerful way to do that. If you work, this is a great way to get local exposure, improve brand awareness, and demonstrate your skills and competencies. We like our education volunteers to commit to at least one webinar per month. Our webinars are generally presented Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings from 6 - 8 PM. We do some weekday mid-day webinars. We also present webinars in Spanish on Saturday mornings and others in Portuguese, so bi-lingual volunteers are important to us. There is a moderator assigned to each webinar to assist the presenter. A SCORE mentor is an adviser who helps individuals and small businesses reach their goals. Mentors provide free business advice and education to aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners. As a mentor, you’ll help clients solve problems, make businesses more efficient, and assist with developing long-term business plans. Additionally, you may discover new sources of insight and knowledge to help your own business and leadership style. Advising others how to manage people or projects, along with illustrating ways to succeed in other aspects of business, could inspire you to continue with your own professional growth-all of this while helping your local community. The ideal mentor is empathetic, flexible, and loves connecting people to the right resources. Mentors often have significant experience within their field, excellent communication skills, and the ability to dedicate a few hours a week. Apply today if you have expertise in any business topic, including but not limited to marketing, finance and accounting, management, technology, strategy, websites, etc. Time commitment is up to you. A mentoring session is usually around an hour. We ask our volunteers to commit to scheduling two hours a week. That time can be weekdays, evenings, weekends depending on your availability.
