Mission Statement

Little Portion Farm is a ministry of the Franciscan Friars Conventual that seeks to "hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor" by donating organic produce to local soup kitchens while using sustainable farming methods to restore the health of our land.

Description

Little Portion Farm is a ministry of the Franciscan Friars Conventual focused on providing fresh food to those in need while using sustainable farming methods to restore the health of our land. The 3-acre farm functions as an "agro-ecosystem," with a diversity of plants and habitats to support the life of this "little portion" of creation. As the food harvested from the farm will be donated to the Franciscan Center in Baltimore, the overarching mission of this ministry is, using the words of Pope Francis, to "hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor."

The farm is also meant to serve as a place of gathering, service, reflection, and education for the local community, cultivating a deeper appreciation of the beauty of the natural world and its interconnectedness, and realizing the Catholic call to serve the most vulnerable and protect creation. We welcome groups or individuals to come serve, learn, and reflect on our farm!

Highly ethical organization with very good intentions and super competent volunteer workforce. I live quite far away now, but I still receive the volunteer emails and will once again start up. I enjoyed every second on Little Portions farm, it is a place of solitude and good intentions. I was beyond happy to have opportunities to go the farm and water the crops when I had the chance. They are really doing great work and it was super interesting to see it grow from its humble beginnings to a really powerful sustainable farm. Matt was beyond amazing to work for/with, and he is a really great person to run the farm (Kelly is as well!). Nice to know that they have found very smart people that are able to donate their time here. Easily the best volunteer experience that I'll ever have, nothing comes close.
