Description

The Climate Solutions Accelerator is an inclusive, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to inspiring and facilitating a large-scale climate mobilization in the nine-county Genesee-Finger Lakes Region.

In the weeks leading up to the 2014 People’s Climate March, more than 30 local organizations joined together to demand action on climate change and form the Rochester People’s Climate Coalition (RPCC). Following the march, representatives from member organizations worked together to define the Coalition’s mission, goals, and structure. For six years, the organization operated as RPCC, with a focus on organizing collaborative efforts to address climate change in the nine-county Genesee-Finger Lakes Region. Initially all-volunteer led, RPCC became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2017 and hired its first staff person in 2018, to support the coalition’s rapid growth and increasing activity.

In 2020, the organization changed its name and look to reflect its critical role in launching and accelerating efforts to address climate change throughout the nine-county Genesee-Finger Lakes Region. With a growing staff, Board of Directors, and wide ranging group of member and partner organizations, the Climate Solutions Accelerator uses its wealth of experience and energy to galvanize high-impact climate action at the local level.

Five years ago, after the election of 2016, I began searching for a climate solutions group to volunteer with. I found the Rochester People's Climate Coalition (the former name for the Climate Solutions Accelerator) online and realized that it was a, "group of climate groups" with several dozen members. I chose to volunteer with one of its members immediately and have never looked back since. As of this writing, I have worked with several of the Accelerator's member groups and I have even assisted with some of the Accelerator's own climate solutions initiatives. This is simply an amazing resource to have in our community! Member groups and individual volunteers are able to share successes, strategies, challenges and uplifting moments in the Accelerator's shared Slack workspace. This tool, when combined with all the other resources provided by the Accelerator to its members, creates an unstoppable synergy of good work and results in our regional area. I strongly recommend this group!

As someone interested in learning about environmental issues and solutions in my community in Rochester, I found the Climate Solutions Accelerator organization to be a welcoming place to start engaging in these issues. There are lots of opportunities and everyone is so welcoming and eager to educate people on climate issues/solutions.

When I moved to Rochester, I was keen to get involved in local climate action. I soon found the Climate Solutions Accelerator (then known as Rochester People's Climate Coalition) and have been involved with them ever since. I have been immensely impressed not only with the scope of their work, but also with the knowledge and commitment of the staff and of the other volunteers. I've learned a great deal about clean heating and cooling since joining and have also made great connections. I'd highly recommend the Accelerator to anyone eager to take local action against climate change.
