Side Walker at Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center

Flexible Schedule | Ponder, TX 76259

All of our volunteers start out as side walkers. The role of the side walker is to assist the rider while riding the horse during the lesson. Side walkers may help stabilize the rider, repeat directions, give simple reminders or keep their attention. Horse handlers are responsible for the horse during lessons. This includes grooming, tacking, untacking and leading the horse during the lesson. We reserve this role for volunteers who have more experience with horses or have been through extra training with us and have served as a side walker.

Help Care For Therapy Horses

Assist in the daily care and maintenance of our herd of equines. You will assist barn staff in the feeding, watering, turning in and out, muck stalls, and grooming of horses. We have a sprawling 46 acres and 22 horses, all of which serve in of various equine assisted services to benefit indivudals with disabilites, veterans, active duty millitary, and first responders.

Admin Volunteer at Equine Therapy Center

Admin volunteers perform a variety of general clerical duties such as filing, data entry, making copies, assisting with special mailings, etc. Individuals will attend an orientation and additional training as needed. We also have opportunites to get involved with fundraising and event planning in this role.

Horse Schooling Team

Join our schooling team to help keep our program horses in shape! Riding Unlimited is a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center providing therapeutic horsemanship lessons to individuals with cognitive, physical, and emotional disabilities, veterans, active duty military, and first responders. In this volunteer role you would help us ride/condition our lesson horses so that they can continue to provide services to our riders. Previous riding experience is required.

Description

At Riding Unlimited we provide therapeutic riding while at the same time teaching horsemanship to the mentally and physically disabled community. Our clients ages range from 4 years old to senior adults.
