Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. We supply all the training you need. Contact Lee at lee.borofka@redcross.org for more information.

Be part of our work to help save millions of lives each year by volunteering as a blood donor ambassador and welcoming donors who give the gift of life. Blood donor ambassadors welcome donors to blood drives and provide friendly support before and after they give. This can include helping donors to register, answering their questions and assisting them at the refreshments table. Training is free, but the support you provide is priceless. Make a difference by joining the American Red Cross to collect lifesaving blood to those in need. We ask that someone interested in volunteering for this position is able to commit to at least four shifts a year (average shift is 5-6 hours). Red Cross disaster volunteers turn heartbreak into hope every day. Volunteers help those affected by house fires, storms, tornadoes, floods, and other disasters with food, shelter, supplies, and hope. Disasters occur every year, whether a house fire that impacts only one family, or a huge storm that affects a whole city. Recovery takes not only the dedication of Red Cross Disaster Responders, but the holistic partnerships within the community. Red Cross Disaster Responders train in a variety of different areas including casework, sheltering, feeding, supply distribution, damage assessment, logistics, etc. In between responses, these volunteers work on community partnerships and readiness simulations to strengthen the resiliency of the community. Examples of these include identifying shelter sites, establishing agreements with restaurants, maintaining relationships with fire departments, setting up a shelter exercise, conducting inventory checks, etc. Time Commitment: Hours vary by position and current level of disaster responses. Flexibility is key in these positions. Qualifications: Qualifications vary by position. Minimum age requirement is 18 yrs for all positions. Access to transportation to various worksites. Flexibility. Training: Specific training courses are provided for each position and are a combination of online tutorials, classroom courses, and one-on-one mentoring.
