Examples of activities with patients: Hold a hand. Listen, read, or sing. Play board games. Gentiva Hospice of Johnson City, TN is looking for volunteers to serve throughout Washington & Unicoi Counties (Johnson City, Boones Creek, Gray, Fall Branch, Telford, Unicoi, Erwin, Jonesborough, Telford, Limestone, & Flag Pond Areas). We also have remote serve from home positions available. The options are endless when it comes to ways that you can get involved. Here's just a few of the ways that you can serve the great people of your community: There's so many ways to get involved as a Gentiva Hospice Volunteer. Here is a list of some of the opportunities: Administrative : - Assist in the office with answering phones, filing, scanning - Assistance with regular outgoing mailouts and/or phone calls - Making weekly calls to check in on patients and their families - Remote administrative Volunteer Services from your home Bereavement : - Attend/Assist with our "Circle of Friends" bereavement lunch/dinner groups - Assistance with weekly/monthly mailouts and/or phone calls - 1 year anniversary calls and/or visits to check in on the bereaved - Writing heartfelt cards of care, concern, & encouragement through the bereavement pen pal program - Plan, Coordinate, & Assist with two Annual Memorial Services Direct: - Visit & offer companionship to patients & families both in private homes and/or facilities - Providing caregiver relief visits for caregivers so they can rest, run errands, or tend to their homes - Assist with special occasion deliveries such birthdays, holidays, Veteran’s Day - Lead activities, play games, call BINGO, and/or lead a time of devotion at assisted living facilities & nursing homes - Veteran to Veteran Visits and assistance with special Veteran related events - Light Housekeeping - Music Therapy: singing, playing an instrument, or even playing music on your phone for patients - Playing Games, Cards, & Talking with Patients and their Caregivers - Scrapbooking & Recording of Memories - Patient / family pen pal program writing heartfelt letters of care, concern, & encouragement Additional Options: - Baking and/or Delivering Cookies & Cakes for patients, families, bereaved, or for special occasions - Quilting (especially Veteran/Patriotic/holiday themed quilts) - Cooking and/or Meal Prepping for patients and families who are no longer able to do so themselves - Singing to Patients for Special Occasions (especially veterans day and Christmas) - Pet Therapy Visits - Making and/or delivering Christmas ornaments and/or decorated tabletop Christmas trees for patients - Caring for a patient's pet(s) once they are no longer able to do so such as bathing, grooming, feeding, walking, and playing - Photography for our events and/or for our patients/families as requested - Professional Volunteers to do hair, nails, barber services, makeup, massage therapy, photography, yard care, etc. - Veteran to Veteran Activities - Assist with special events PLEASE CALL (423) 282-0062 or (423) 833-8806 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED OR HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS OR IDEAS!!!
