Position Summary: Our growing organization is currently funded by individual donors. We are seeking someone to help us in grant research and writing as we have plans to expand our scholarship and mentoring programs. Individuals will gain hands-on experience in fundraising and grant writing, and gain a better understanding of non-profit management. This position will play an important role in helping Ashe Arts & STEM to achieve these goals. Purpose: Ashe Arts & STEM is thrilled to open the door to a new opportunity with our family. The Ashe Arts & STEM's mission is to represent BIPOC students who are interested in pursuing careers in ARTS and STEM fields, and help them achieve their educational goals through scholarships, and mentoring. We aim to facilitate the transition from student to professional. We are looking for a dedicated and driven individual searching for an opportunity to work as a Grant Writer and help with researching, writing, and coordinating the grant application process and help in the management of donations. Ashe Arts & STEM is headquartered in Los Angeles (Tarzana, CA), but applicants need not reside in the Los Angeles metro area as meetings are virtual. While this is a virtual opportunity, you still must live in the United States to apply. Position Description: The Grant Writer will work directly with Ashe Arts & STEM’s Board President, Vice President & Treasurer. Responsible for all aspects of raising support from foundations, corporations, and government sources requiring researching opportunities and writing full grant proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects, specifically capital and endowment support. Building partnerships between Ashe Arts & STEM and public and private organizations that share a similar commitment to our vision and mission, Grant Writer is actively engaged in researching opportunities, working to establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of Ashe Arts & STEM. The Grant Writer may work in a variety of capacities: Grant Writing: Write and coordinate full grant proposals and reports to foundations, corporations and select government agencies as determined by the grants calendar and grant reporting requirements. Foster the growth and implementation of best practices for all grant-related functions, including proposal-writing, budget development, and data integrity. Research and compile pertinent institutional information for projects requiring funding. This includes meeting with or contacting various departments within Ashe Arts & STEM to garner information to be incorporated into case statements, letters of intent, proposals and reports. Research & Planning: Identify corporate and foundation prospects and develop effective solicitation strategies to secure funding for Ashe Arts & STEM initiatives. Strategically link programmatic initiatives with opportunities for fundraising. Lead or participate in initiatives and workgroups that might result in or impact grant funding. Make informed and well-prepared presentations on major funding decisions; lead conversation on benefits and risks of a particular grant. Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants. Follow relevant news and grant trends as it relates to Ashe Arts & STEM's needs, including federal and budget processes. Goal Setting: Set annual personal goals, including: writing proposals, dollars raised, types and amounts of gifts sought; self-improvement goals; adding foundation prospects to database; planned activities with constituents. Ashe Arts & STEM Relationship Development: Understand Ashe Arts & STEM history and programs and ability to summarize into well written proposals. Develop, foster and maximize relationships with institutional and private funders. Maintain thorough knowledge of current and planned programs and priority initiatives for the purposes of accurately and persuasively communicating achievements and goals to prospective donors. Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity Multitasking, organizational and time management skills Working knowledge of computers Position Requirements: Ability to articulate and model the Ashe Arts & STEM mission, vision and values Minimum of five years of experience and provable track record in successful grant research and writing Working knowledge of Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office Must have a phone and computer Strong organizational skills, ability to set and communicate priorities and meet deadlines Ability to monitor progress and track results Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization Ability to foster teamwork and supervise volunteer & intern staff Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills Working knowledge of gift accounting regulations Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities. The things we accomplished in 2022 are a testament to the board members involved in making these accomplishments possible! ) Feb, 2022 - Our 3rd annual Black History Month Expo event was a great success with over 40 small BIPOC owned businesses represented at our expo event. Our Arts & STEM panel broadcasts drew the largest live audience yet. August 2022 - We had a very successful back-to-school event in August and with the support of donors and sponsors we were able to give away nearly 250 backpacks to children from the Greater Los Angeles area. September, 2022 - We were able to distribute much needed school supplies in August to 4 awardees of our Adopt-A-Classroom program. September 2022 - In 2021 we announced our 8 inaugural scholarship and community impact winners at our gala. We dispersed funds to these students who began their first year of post secondary education this fall. September, 2022 - We have launched our 2022-2023 scholarship program on the Bold.org platform ( https://bit.ly/3S0FDkt) Scholarship winners will be notified in March 2023 and also announced at the May 2023 gala. Time: We are seeking someone who could provide at least 8-10 hours per week on average of volunteer time (as needed) to support our efforts.
