Mission Statement
Spa Creek Conservancy is an all-volunteer watershed organization dedicated to the stewardship of Spa Creek through education, preservation, mitigation, and restoration.
Description
We are a 15 year old watershed group dedicated to making Spa Creek a fishable, swimmable Creek. SCC has received more than $10 million in grant funding which has restored the creek headwaters, Hawkins Cove ravine, installed rain gardens at watershed churches, schools, parks and street-ends. We have planted thousands of trees and native plants, educated school children and communities on the importance of stormwater runoff mitigation and partnered with City departments, other watershed organizations, volunteer groups and neighborhoods to reduce the runoff into Spa Creek and the Severn River. In the summer of 2018, we held our first annual Kids on the Creek event to introduce children, with limited access to local waterways, to on-water and in-water activities on the Creek. This free event hosted more than 120 kids with volunteer-run boat rides, paddleboard lessons, fish seining and a creek-related scavenger hunt.
