Mission Statement
The Mariners' Temple Baptist Church is a biblically rooted church. The Community Outreach Programs provide food, clothing, guidance and supports for groups, families and individuals in need. We have initiated small-group ministries designed to address the specific needs and interests of children, youth, young adults, women, men, elders, veterans, cancer survivors, bereaved families, and more.
Description
In 1795 a church was established on the corner of Henry and Oliver Streets and Mariners' Temple continues that legacy of ministry and mission. Known as the "Mother of Churches," Mariners' Temple is credited with helping to expand the Baptist Church movement through its witness and empowerment of immigrant populations who visited or settled into Manhattan's lower east side neighborhood.
Under the dynamic leadership of Rev. Dr. Henrietta Carter, who was installed in 1998, the church continues to develop, provide and expand programs that respond to the needs of local residents, many who are immigrants, and to serve all who live in the diverse lower Manhattan community.
