Disaster Mental Health Associates respond to the psychosocial needs of people affected by a disaster, including Red Cross disaster workers, across the continuum of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Responsibilities: Willingness to support Red Cross Mission Identifying mental health needs through individual psychological triage and mental health surveillance. Promoting resilience and coping, including enhanced psychological first aid (EPFA), individual psychoeducation, community-level support, and community resilience training. Providing targeted disaster mental health interventions, including secondary assessment and referrals, crisis intervention, casualty support, and advocacy. Time Commitment: Flexible. Volunteers can work locally to respond to the needs of victims affected in local house fires, can participate in local preparations and exercises, and can deploy to help with local or national disasters. Qualifications: Must be an either: a current school psychologist, a current school counselor, a current psychiatric nurse, or a licensed mental health professional--hold a current, unencumbered license from, or is registered with, any U.S. state or territory as a social worker, psychologist, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or psychiatrist (any level license/registration, including non-clinical licenses such as Licensed Masters Social Worker or LMSW). Collaborative, assertive, and flexible working style. Ability to participate and contribute in regular meetings. Demonstrates the ability to engage in constructive and proactive problem-solving. The Red Cross San Bernardino County Chapter is in need of COVID-19 Shelter Service Associate temp positions. The Shelter Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season . Shelter Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and provide assistance for disaster clients. Shelter Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter. Key Responsibilities: Following worker safety procedures for working in a COVID environment Embodying the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross in their work with clients, disaster responders, and partners Providing excellent client service and support the daily maintenance of the shelter operation at the direction of the assigned Shelter Supervisor Using the Shift Tool during the disaster event to report availability and schedule shelter shifts Completing the required virtual self-paced training (3 hours of training total) Time Commitment: Local: Minimum of 5 days working 4-, 6- or 12-hour shifts Beyond region: Minimum of 14 days working 8 or 12 hour shifts Hurricane/Wildfire Season 2021 Required Qualifications: Ability to build appropriate and effective relationships with co-workers and shelter residents. Licensed healthcare professionals are needed! Are you a licensed healthcare professional? If so, we also have a high need for health care workers to provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents. With predictions for a very active hurricane and wildfire season, disaster victims need your expert care and comfort. Training is free and CE credit is available. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10 consecutive days, with shifts of 8 or 12 hours each (we'll cover travel, food, and accommodations) OR stay local. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4, 8 or 12 hours each. Licensed Required: RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. It’s the hardest job you will ever love! Purpose: Disaster Health Services (DHS) Supervisor (SV) is a TEMPORARY POSITION assigned to work in person before, during, and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. The purpose of this role is to lead a team of Disaster Health Services responders to provide health services care to shelter clients. This role will act as the liaison from the Disaster Health Services team to the shelter manager. Advocacy for client needs is a primary purpose of this role. Key Responsibilities: Disaster Health Services Supervisor (IDC/DHS/SV). Lead team of licensed healthcare professionals Act as liaison for DHS team with the shelter manager Assist DHS service associates with documentation and data gathering (including C-MIST interview). Communicate access and functional needs of clients to shelter manager Provide hands-on care as necessary, including assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, health assessments, health education, and determination that a higher level of care is needed for the client Observation and health screening for COVID-19 like illness for all shelter clients daily Lead the management of a shelter isolation care area. Complete required virtual self-paced and instructor-led training for the position (29 hours total) Purpose: Disaster Health Services (DHS) Service Associate (SA) is a TEMPORARY POSITION assigned to work in person before, during, and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. Volunteers in this role provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed. Key Responsibilities: Disaster Health Services Service Associate (IDC/DHS/SA). The Disaster Health Services Associate provides healthcare and first-aid for clients, and in some cases, staff. Additionally, this role assesses for and responds to public health issues in Red Cross service delivery sites. Responsibilities: *Assess and triage the health needs of the shelter population - at the time of registration and on an on-going basis. *Evaluate and treat client's illnesses and/or injuries per past history utilizing the ARC Health *Services Protocols as a guideline. *Immediately refer critical illness or injury to a higher level of care - i.e. Emergency Medical System (EMS). *Document appropriately in accordance with HIPAA guidelines to ensure client confidentiality. *Monitor shelter clients and staff for disease outbreaks and report to public health through Health Services Supervisor. *Consider if current housing or shelter is appropriate for client's required level of care. *Make appropriate community referrals. *Refer individuals with mental or emotional health issues to Disaster Mental Health workers. *Ensure ongoing sanitary conditions of restrooms, food service, and healthcare areas. Ensure the security of all medical supplies and equipment. *Inform the facility manager of any safety hazards or sanitation problems. *Arrange for replacement of emergency medication for disaster-related health needs of shelter residents in accordance with ARC regulations & policies. Time Commitment: Flexible. Works with the Disaster Action Team (DAT) participating in an on-call system. Be a source of refuge and support when disasters strike! Fires and storms are unexpected, but you can join one of our local teams that are trained to respond to emergencies. Be that help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms, and other emergencies so they don’t have to face tough times alone! People affected by disaster need your support and care! As a Red Cross Shelter volunteer, you'll be part of a team providing a safe place to rest and a path toward recovery. If you can travel outside of your local area, a commitment of a least 14 consecutive days to volunteer for 8- or 12-hour shifts is needed (we'll provide travel accommodations). OR stay local. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4, 6, or 12 hours each. The hours are long, the work is hard, but the experience will change you forever!
