Mission Statement

Resource Equality - International’s goal is to assist poor families and communities in obtaining access to sustainable clean water and sanitation. RE-I is a proactive water/sanitation/hygiene (WASH) NGO working in S.E. Asia. We are based in Cambodia, but have completed projects in Vietnam and Myanmar (Burma). RE-I is a nonpolitical, nonreligious, nonprofit organization from Alaska, USA.

Description

Resource Equality - International (RE-I) was founded in 2006 by a group of Alaskans and Khmer (Cambodian) volunteers. RE-I is a development focused water/sanitation/hygiene (WASH) NGO. RE-I started by providing in-house ceramic water filters to the most vulnerable families. Now RE-I also constructs toilet buildings, with sustainable septic systems, mostly for poor schools. We build bulk water storage tanks with rainwater collection, hand washing stations, and more. RE-I conducts hygiene, sanitation, clean water education programs at all our development sites - lots of fun! The water filter project is my favorite. The ceramic water filters change the lives of poor families immediately. Most people in the countryside use wood or charcoal to boil water for drinking. Wood is getting scarce and charcoal is expensive - 2-kg of charcoal costs the same as 1-kg of rice. Safe drinking water is the first step in helping families survive so they can work themselves out of poverty. Want to make a meaningful difference? Please join us.

Peter - regional director, RE-I
