Mission Statement
Our missions are to maintain a memorial dedicated to the members of the United States Navy Submarine Service; to increase the public awareness of the maritime history of the region centered on Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with particular attention to shipbuilding and shipping activities; and to display the historic research submarine USS ALBACORE (AGSS-569) to the general public.
Description
Our site is an historic landmark and honors those crewmen who served aboard the USS Albacore submarine from 1952 to 1972. We allow our visitors and students to take self-guided tours of the submarine, feature a small exhibition museum and a memorial garden. Albacore Park is a sprawling estate which hosts over 30,000 visitors a year.
Our site is continuously under conservation and preservation maintenance and repair as well as educational and collections based projects. We need you as volunteers to help us to provide a safe, fun, engaging experience for our visitors. Our tasks include regular grounds maintenance, store inventory and clean up, greeters at events, curatorial assistants, office assistants, store associate assistants. We need your help year round so please consider volunteering with us today!
