Do you have a passion for giving back, and have a dog with pet therapy vibes? We have an exciting opportunity for adults ages 18+ to come in regularly to provide pet therapy for our patients and staff. Your dog must be certified through Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs, or you must be willing to complete that certification first. If you are certified through another accredited organization, you may still be qualified to join. Handlers must apply to be an official volunteer for our organization. Pet therapy teams must commit to 1 shift per week on a regular basis, with an overall minimum commitment of 1 year. Please join us to support our mission at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center: To provide Compassionate Care, Healthcare Excellence, and Superior Service to our patients and their families! Prospective Volunteers will need to complete an interview and application process, which includes comprehensive medical screening and clearance, background check, references, and drug screening. A volunteer uniform will be provided as part of our dress code. Pet therapy teams must also complete an onsite orientation and evaluation at no cost by our certified pet trainer, to make a final determination of readiness to volunteer in the medical center.

At Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, we realize that spiritual and emotional support of patients is a vital factor in more positive medical outcomes. The Spiritual Care Department is glad to participate in the healing process of our patients. We have chaplains and trained spiritual care volunteers who promote healing by addressing the spiritual, emotional, and religious needs of our patients. Without our spiritual care volunteers we could not effectively achieve the mission of the Spiritual Care Department, which makes our services available to the nearly 600 patients we serve on a daily basis. Good spiritual care volunteers need not be formally trained as pastoral visitors. We will train compassionate candidates who support the caring goals of our Spiritual Care team. We are looking for volunteers for weekday mornings - times may be flexible to accommodate your schedule. If you think Spiritual Care Volunteering is for you, call Rabbi Jennifer Geretz at 973-322-5015. This could be the beginning of a wonderful and rewarding volunteering opportunity!
