Volunteers are individuals who make others' lives brighter by offering companionship, spiritual support, listening, writing notes for patients, singing songs or watching a tv shows and so much more! Volunteers have the unique talent to brighten a hospice patients' final days by lending an ear and asking them What Matters to them. Our volunteer team has the passion for caring for others and are always looking for a way to make a difference in a patient's life. Volunteers are needed to visit with patients throughout Maine We ask volunteers to spend 30 minutes to 1 hour a week with our patients. Amedisys Veteran-to-Veteran volunteer program pairs veteran volunteers with hospice patients who are veterans. Veteran volunteers are important because they are able to form a special connection with veteran patients. Veteran Volunteers can help by: Assist veterans in reminiscing/telling life stories. Educate and assist patients in receiving veteran benefits. Take part in pinning ceremonies or distribute certificates for Veteran’s Day and other recognition events. Volunteer opportunities are available at Beacon Hospice to provide friendly visits to patients and/or their families at local healthcare facilities or in their personal home in the Bedford and surrounding areas! Volunteers are needed who: - Play music for patients - Are veterans interested in supporting veterans on hospice - Want to make legacy projects and crafts with and for patients and their loved ones. - Are willing to listen and talk, read a book, play cards, or watch a favorite TV show *Companionship volunteers do not perform any clinical activities with a patient such as feeding, toileting, bathing or transferring. *Volunteers schedule their own visits - day/time. *Volunteers receive flexible training oppurtunities that fits into any busy schedule.
