Behind the Scences Volunteers will meet with the Founder of March of the Blanketeers once weekly, on Sundays, to participate in various tasks, such as: -Packing Boxes -Cutting Fabric -Organization of materials, and supplies -Hand-sew labels on Blankets (one per blanket) -Stuffing Envelopes -Sorting Knitting Needles by size; two, or five at a time -Packing bags of hats, bears, and blankets. -Labeling Cards -Organizing cards -Organizing Blankets, and hats Ideal Volunteer Charaterstics: -Respectful in mannerism, as well as towards property -Must be well Groomed -Hardworking -Knowledgable -Honest -Trust-worthy -Someone who puts more good in, than they take -Sober -Non-smoker, including Vaping -Must be able to work well with others -Speaking English Fluently is REQUIRED Volunteering will occur every Sunday Afternoon at Founders' House, on Long Island in Smithtown, NY. You may use any pattern you wish. Please use cheerful colors. Baby blankets should measure between a 2 foot square, and no larger than a 3 foot by 4.5 foot rectangle. To prevent allergic reactions, please use only Acrylics, Cottons, Polyester, and Nylons. Do not use wool, nor wool blends. DO NOT SUBMIT ANYTHING STORE BOUGHT, IT WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU!!! Each square must be in cheerful, Acrylic, Nylon, Polyester, and/or Cotton yarn, which is in kid-friendly designs. Every square must be a 6 inch square shape (all other shapes WILL be sent back). Some yarn can be provided upon request. Yarn can be sent to you. Said yarn will come in a box, which should be re-used to ship finished squares back to March of the Blanketeers, as we are an eco-friendly nonprofit. If you wish to make blankets, please look for our blanket-making opportunities. Store bought squares ARE NOT ACCEPTED! Squares should be 6-inches or as close to said measurement as possible. While not required; this opportunity can be used to obtain community service hours. Each square is worth 1 hour of community service. Please knit 6-inch WInter themed squares for March of the Blanketeers. These can be redeemed for 1 Community Service Hour per Square. Please make squares 6-inch on all four sides, and only square, as no other shapes are accepted. If colorworking, please Double Knit, as some of these squares will be joined into preemie blankets, and little fingers can become entrapped in holes, and strands. Volunteers will be required to crochet baby blankets with acrylic, cotton, nylon, or polyester yarn, in bright cheerful colors, or pastels. If planning on using a Granny Square Pattern, please use a small hook, as so little fingers stay free from entrapment in holes. Please make blankets between a 2-Foot Square and a 3-foot by 4.5 Foot Rectangle. Please understand that the aforementioned is a Range of sizes, and can be made anywhere between, and including those two sizes. Please take care to leave fringe off, as well as ALL embellishments.
