Behind the Scences Volunteers will meet with the Founder of March of the Blanketeers once weekly, on Sundays, to participate in various tasks, such as: -Packing Boxes -Cutting Fabric -Organization of materials, and supplies -Hand-sew labels on Blankets (one per blanket) -Stuffing Envelopes -Sorting Knitting Needles by size; two, or five at a time -Packing bags of hats, bears, and blankets. -Labeling Cards -Organizing cards -Organizing Blankets, and hats Ideal Volunteer Charaterstics: -Respectful in mannerism, as well as towards property -Must be well Groomed -Hardworking -Knowledgable -Honest -Trust-worthy -Someone who puts more good in, than they take -Sober -Non-smoker, including Vaping -Must be able to work well with others -Speaking English Fluently is REQUIRED Volunteering will occur every Sunday Afternoon at Founders' House, on Long Island in Smithtown, NY. You may use any pattern you wish. Please use cheerful colors. Baby blankets should measure between a 2 foot square, and no larger than a 3 foot by 4.5 foot rectangle. Each square must be in cheerful, Acrylic, Nylon, Polyester, and/or Cotton yarn, which is in kid-friendly designs. Every square must be a 6 inch square shape (all other shapes WILL be sent back). Some yarn can be provided upon request. Yarn can be sent to you. Said yarn will come in a box, which should be re-used to ship finished squares back to March of the Blanketeers, as we are an eco-friendly nonprofit. If you wish to make blankets, please look for our blanket-making opportunities. Store bought squares ARE NOT ACCEPTED! Squares should be 6-inches or as close to said measurement as possible. While not required; this opportunity can be used to obtain community service hours. Each square is worth 1 hour of community service. Event Description: Join March of the Blanketeers every Tuesday afternoon for a bear-making mini-event on Discord, dedicated to creating handmade bears for children in hospitals. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring comfort and joy to those who need it most. We welcome crafters of all skill levels! During this event, we’ll craft bears that adhere to safety standards-always free from safety eyes, noses, beads, buttons, safety pins, straight pins, sharp objects, broken glass, unsanitary items, food, candy, or anything that could pose a choking hazard. What You'll Need: Crafting materials (yarn, fabric, stuffing, etc.) Basic crafting tools Community Service Hours: Participants can earn community service hours for each bear made and donated through this event. Please note that all items made on the server must be forfeited to March of the Blanketeers upon completion for donation to hospitals. How to Join: Sign up to receive an invite to our Discord server.
