Their manner of communication left me with the distinct impression that they have little to no respect for people who want to give some of their time and they're generally unprofessional. After I declined the first invitation (which didn't show up until months later) and was added to a second event, I finally requested to be removed/unsubbed. The organizer was defensive and HAD to follow up with a retort along the lines of "just to remind you that you asked to be" on the email list. Not only was this an inane comment, it was highly unprofessional. The only thing an org that needs/wants volunteers should say to any member of the public when they request to be removed is, "we're sorry to see you go - thank you for your interest - and hopefully we can have you as a volunteer in the future." That's it: the bare minimum of professional courtesy and respect. Just because you're a non-profit doesn't mean the rules of professionalism don't apply to you.
