Here's your change to meet a service dog pup in training, assist with their socialization. Your home, and its members, will be new to the pup, as will your neighborhood. Take one of our pups either when their raiser needs relief or in our once a month weekend foster program. Your role is to keep the pup safe, happy, and healthy, and to follow our protocols we use in training our pups (sleep in their crates at night, or when unsupervised), no furniture, loose leash walking, good house manners, etc. We have a hand out we'll provide you, and if you're new to the program, ask you to take an hour and a half class before you take a pup home. We don't expect you to train the pup, or take it on public outings to socialize it. You'll be provided with all you need - crate, leash, harness, food, toys, bed (if dog is ready for that), long leash, etc. You provide the love and care of the pup. If you're a vacation relief volunteer, the raiser usually drops the pup and supplies off to you, and picks it up. If you're a weekend foster, you'll pick the pup up at our center in Brewster either Friday or Saturday morning, and return to our center in Brewster either Sunday or Monday morning.

We're seeking someone with graphic design experience and expertise who can assist us with our graphic design needs - our Annual Report written in early December-January, periodic flyers/postcards/brochures. You choose which projects, and how much time you'd donate to our organization and cause. We provide free service dogs to people with physical disabilities other than blindness, and veterans with PTSD. We train carefully selected mixed breed rescue dogs as our service dogs. The demand for our type of service dog is overwhelming. We're training as many as our resources support. Please send a resume to us at info@putnamservicedogs.org.

Dinner meetings are generally held in Brewster, NY. Putnam Service Dogs is a 501(c)3, BBB Acredited, and 2024 Platinum Guidestar nonprofit. We provide free service dogs to people with physical disabilities and for Veterans with PTSD. Our dogs are mixed breeds, carefully chosen from rescues. We were founded in 2016. Our Residential Training Center, which we moved into November 2023, houses 4 dogs in training. (the last part of their training). We also have pups in training living with Volunteer Puppy Raisers,. Our Residential Training Center allows us not only to increase the number of our dogs in training (8 as of september 2024), but it also enhances the training of our dogs. Our weekend day and weekend caretaker who train and socialize our pups there daily under the superivision of our trainers. Our pups living with our raisers periodically rotate through to kick start their training. We have an overwhelming demand for our dogs, and are working hard to increase our production. Our highly trained dogs are valued members of our community.

Looking for a volunteer opportunity that's rewarding, fun, and where you'll truly make a difference? If you live in Putnam, Westchester, or Dutchess County, Western Connecticut from Brookfield to Ridgefield/Redding or the Stamford area, or Upper NYC (Manhattan), we want you!!! The pup will live in your home. You'll love, care for it, teach it basic obedience and house manners, and gently socialize it to new situations. All under the careful supervision and guidance from our trainers. You'll make a significant contribution to helping someone less fortunate. We can't produce our service dogs without their being raised in the loving homes of our volunteer raisers. It's that simple. No raisers, no service dogs. Our service dogs are free to their recipients - people with physical disabilities other than blindness. We train carefully selected mixed breed pups we adopt from rescue groups. It's a rare dog that's capable of being a service dog. If you have no more than 1 dog at home, who is friendly to other dogs, we want you! If you work from home, or can bring the pup to work, or have a partner to stay with the pup when you're working, we want you! Our pups can't be left alone more than 3 hours at the most to learn to bond very closely with people. A service dog's loving bond to their recipient motivates them to assist that person. Choose whether you want to raise one of our pups for 6, 12, or 18 months. We cover all the major costs of the pup - vet care, food, crate(s), leash(s), harness(es), and some toys. You provide bowls, measuring cup, some toys, and dog bed(s) when they're ready for them, and transportation costs to socialize the pup, take it to the vet as needed, attend classes(when held) and events (1 or 2/year). You'll learn a LOT about dogs from our trainers, will get out and exercise more, will meet new people, add a purpose to your life.
