Attack Theatre

Description

Founded in 1994 as a collaboration between two dancers and a city, Attack Theatre combines modern dance, original live music, multimedia and interdisciplinary art forms to present engaging and innovative dance performances. Under the artistic direction of Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors, Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza, the company has produced over 150 original works in theatrical and site specific settings, collaborating with symphony orchestras, theater companies, and art museums throughout the Southwestern PA region. While maintaining a loyal audience in Pittsburgh, they have toured extensively across the U.S. and the world.

The company has often heard, "I don’t usually like dance, but I really like this work." While the company strives to connect with dance audiences, engaging with a larger swath of audiences is a priority for the company. The ability to use contemporary dance vocabulary as a communication tool for kinesthetic learning in the classroom, to amplify text in a theater production, or to express classical music with the symphony is a unique artistic strength that has been developed over many years. With each new project, the artistic team embraces the challenge, whether generated by the company or from an external partner. These projects must maintain the highest degree of professionalism in the dance arts and offer an authentic connection to the community they serve.
