For those that like to give back, and like the outdoors as well, this is a great opportunity! We are in need of having our facilities mowed and weed-eated every 3-4 weeks, depending on the season and the weather. If lawns are not your thing, assist with our vegetable or butterfly garden! Ahhh. Let us know if this is something you would be interested in doing! Getting a team of friends is a great idea also!

Kids' Advocacy Place-Direct Service Volunteer

Our children's advocacy center is a very special place to volunteer! A children's advocacy center is a place for children that have outcried sexual abuse, or are suspected of being abused. They arrive to our children-friendly center for a forensic interview by one of our professionally trained interviewers - skilled at not re-traumatizing the child. The video recorded interviews are then used by child protective services, investigators and prosecutors to provide safety and justice for the children. As a direct service volunteer you could be greeting families, attending prestaffing for cases, providing families with a tour of the facility, assisting caregivers with paper work, conducting post-service surveys via telephone, providing updates on cases to families and providing in-court support.

Do you love organizing?

If you like to organize, this is a great opportunity for you, or you and a friend! We need someone to assist us weekly, even a half day, any Monday-Friday of your choosing, keep items organized for us at our emergency family shelter. Such as donations, clothing, household items, goody bags for the clients, pantry goods, etc. Orientation and some training on will be provided. Come make your mark! Also, at our children's advocacy center, Kids' Advocacy Place, we have a need to keep our Rainbow Room organized! The Rainbow Room is a room of children's clothes and items for children in need that come to our children's advocacy center. Some child abuse training will be provided.

For those times a blind falls down, a door knob falls off or a sink starts leaking.......THAT'S when we need to have someone to call! If you have talents like that, we are looking for you! We have two locations in Kerrville - our emergency women's shelter, as well as our children's advocacy center. For this opportunity, if you can't make it when we call, that's okay, we'll call back next time!

Do you have any legal experience?

If you have a legal background, you can assist a woman in becoming whole again! Some of the women in the shelter perform pro se work when divorcing, working on custody issues, etc. They have some assistance from Texas Legal Services Center and Texas Advocacy Project, but not in person. Filling out the paperwork, deciding what they want - are nerve-wracking situations! Sometimes they need someone to sit with them for encouragement and guidance.

Hill Country Crisis Council offers victims of domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault a multitude of services. We have an emergency shelter, a children's advocacy center, prevention programs in area schools, counseling and advocacy services, hospital accompaniment as well as working with area law enforcement and district courts in hopes of providing justice to the victims.
