Mission Statement
Since 1899, the temple has been a central location for spiritual, cultural and community activities in Sacramento. We practice Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, founded by Shinran Shonin in Japan in the 13th century.
Description
The Buddhist Church of Sacramento is among the three largest congregations of the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA), and one of the five large, regional Betsuin temples in BCA. The largest event of the year is the annual Food and Cultural Bazaar during the second weekend in August, when you are invited to enjoy a weekend of delicious food, learning about Buddhism and socializing.
Included in our many organizations are Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Venture Crew Scouts, Jr. Young Buddhist Association, Adult Buddhist Association, Buddhist Women’s Association, Choir, Dharma School, Basketball League and Sakura Gakuen (Japanese language school).
While honoring our Japanese heritage and culture, we welcome all who want to learn about Buddhism and be a part of our vibrant temple community. We enjoy having remarkable diversity in our congregation participating in the many activities available.
