With more than 700 lectures, plays, book-signings, concerts, and special events each year, MHS needs you to continue making these programs a success! If you enjoy working with people and MHS’s lineup of special events and programs, consider becoming a Public Programs and Member Events volunteer. Public Programs and Member Events volunteers are comfortable working with the community and will provide support to staff in charge of workshops, large festivals, and other special events. Volunteers may take guest registration or provide wayfinding and information, and should be available on some evenings and/or weekends. Qualifications MHS seeks individuals who are dependable, friendly, versatile, and knowledgeable about MHS’s various programs and series, and who enjoy working with people. Standing, sitting, lifting, and cleanup may be required, depending on the nature of the program or event. Volunteers must be able to commit to serving 30 hours per year or 1-2 shifts per month on Thursday PM, Saturday AM or PM, or Sunday AM or PM for special programs at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park, Soldiers Memorial Military Museum Downtown or tabling for MHS at other local events. Public Program volunteers serve at adult programs like Thursday Nights at the Museum, Veterans Day, and Weekend Festivalsthroughout the year. Perks Public Programs and Member Events volunteers can participate in grand openings of exhibits, meet our community collaborators, and engage with visitors of all ages and backgrounds. SOLDIERS MEMORIAL GREETER Do you enjoy interacting with the public and have an interest in military history? Be part of a tight-knit team at the beautiful Soldiers Memorial Military Museum as a Soldiers Memorial Greeter. DESCRIPTION Soldiers Memorial Greeters welcome guests upon arrival and provide information on upcoming events, programs, and current gallery content. Greeters also process transactions for the small gift shop on-site. QUALIFICATIONS Although an interest in military history is a plus, anyone with a positive attitude and helpful demeanor can be a successful greeter at Soldiers Memorial. General knowledge of popular attractions in downtown St. Louis is a plus. PERKS All training will be provided by Soldiers Memorial staff. Experience the newly renovated Soldiers Memorial building and share your love of history with guests of all ages. Field trips to other museums and historical sites throughout the region are offered to regularly scheduled volunteers. Location: Soldiers Memorial Can volunteer remotely? If you enjoy interacting with young children and families, providing a safe and welcoming environment, and interpreting historical content to young children, Early Childhood and Family Programs is for you! Volunteers help staff in the History Clubhouse, where history comes alive for our youngest guests by sanitizing books and toys, passing out crafts, and creating a safe environment for visitors. Volunteers will also provide support to staff in charge of special events and programs for Early Childhood and Family audiences. Duties vary depending upon the event or program but may include setting up events, greeting guests, checking in guests, and/or leading a craft or activity. Qualifications MHS seeks individuals who have experience working with children, are creative, enjoy crafts and telling stories, and are outgoing and friendly. Bilingual skills are highly encouraged. Volunteers must be able to commit to serving 30 hours per year or 1-2 shifts per month on Friday AM, Saturday AM or PM, or Sunday AM or PM for special programs including History Exploration Days and family events like Día De Los Muertos and Winter Getaway. Perks Be a part of some of our biggest and most popular programs, such as Día de los Muertos, Winter Getaway, MLK Celebration, Storytelling in the Museum, and Parent & Me. Location: Missouri History Museum Can volunteer remotely? No Schedule: Specific. Volunteers in this position will be needed on pre-scheduled dates and times. Computer work required? No, but volunteers must check their email regularly for schedule updates.
