Hospice Volunteer Opportunity Volunteers are needed in the Tucson area to make friendly, caring visits to hospice patients and their families. Some patients have few family members or friends in the area to visit them; a volunteer makes a huge difference in their life--you are their HERO! Being a hospice volunteer is also very rewarding for the volunteer. You discover how much your visits mean to the patients and their families and it fills your tank as well. This Gentiva Hospice branch serves patients across the northern part of the Tucson metro area, including Oro Valley, Marana and Picture Rocks. We provide all the training you will need to feel confident in your role as a volunteer. After the application process and training, most volunteers are assigned to one or two patients and make weekly visits with them. Volunteers can visit at a time convenient for them and the family they serve. Gentiva Hospice is a leader in the field of hospice care and has been serving Pima County for more than 30 years. We have an active, growing Volunteer program, and we hope you will join us.

You belong here, become a hospice volunteer. Make a difference when life matters most. If you are searching for a way to make a difference in the lives of others, You Belong Here. Hospice Volunteers are a valuable part of our Care Team. Based on your interest and preferences, you will receive free volunteer training. We offer Veteran- to Veteran Programs/Coffees, Vigil Volunteering, Direct Care and Administrative office support areas. Whether it’s providing companionship to a patient, empowering Veterans thru our Veteran-to-Veteran program (we participate in the National We Honor Veterans program), offering support to family and caregivers, assisting the office team, or participating in community outreach, the contributions of our volunteers are essential to our hospice program. Our volunteers are prepared to join our team of physicians, nurses, home health aides, social workers and spiritual support providers who support patients at the end of their journey. Volunteers bring a special perspective to the hospice care team and make a difference for each patient and family. At Gentiva Hospice we are a family-oriented team that provides compassionate care in our community and for those we serve. At a time when life matters most, come be a part of the final journey. If you'd like to join our team, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Jackie Wade, in the Green Valley office at 520-499-3072 or email her at jacqueline.wade@gentivahs.com "Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a god deal of thought into the happiness you are able to give." Hospice Volunteer Opportunity We have an on-going need for compassionate Hospice Volunteers. What would I do during visits? Every patient and caregiver has different needs. * Some would like companionship: someone to talk with, watch a game or movie on TV, be read to. * Some can no longer drive and need to have someone run errands for them. * Some are Veterans and would like another Veteran to visit for a military appreciation presentation. * Some have caregivers who need a short break while someone sits with their loved one. You will always be consulted before a visit with a new patient to ensure you understand what is being asked and are comfortable doing the tasks that are being requested. Would I have to do anything hands-on? No! In fact, volunteers are not permitted to do anything hands-on. You would not transfer, lift, provide toilet or other care, or give medications. Volunteers are also not permitted to provide transportation to patients or caregivers. You would simply be visiting for the purposes of companionship, errands, or caregiver relief. Requirements to Volunteer for Hospice Because of the vulnerability of the patients we serve, we do require a background check, drug test, and TB test - all of which are paid for by Gentiva Hospice. We provide in-depth training so that Volunteers feel prepared to do their important work. All hospice volunteers are given assignments that best suit their time, skills and interests. We reimburse mileage for all visits! How do I get started? If you are interested in becoming a hospice volunteer or would like more information on volunteering, please contact Margot Arellano at marellano@gentivahs.com . Gentiva Hospice (formerly Hospice Family Care) is a leader in the field of hospice care, and has been serving Pima County for more than 30 years. We have an active, growing Volunteer program, and we hope you will join us.

Veteran Volunteers are needed in the Green Valley/Sahurita area to help us honor our Veteran Patients. We provide all training around your schedule, and reimburse mileage. As both parties are comfortable, Veteran Volunteers will visit Veteran Patients for one-time pinning ceremonies, or on an ongoing basis for companionship. This much-needed service helps honor patients who are dealing with a terminal illness, and who would benefit from the connection and understanding that only another Veteran can bring. Becoming a Hospice Volunteer is rewarding and easy. To learn more, please contact Jackie Wade, Volunteer Coordinator, today!
