As a trained Road To Recovery volunteer driver, you can change someone’s life in as little as one hour a week by ensuring a ride is available, so care isn’t stopped or delayed. Keep in mind that most rides are needed during Monday through Friday, primarily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Drivers should have regular availability at some point during that time frame (you choose your availability). If you own or have regular access to a safe, reliable vehicle, then you’re already on the road to volunteering. But you’ll also need to be between the ages of 18 and 84 possess a valid driver’s license and adequate automobile insurance pass a background check and motor vehicle records check be comfortable using technology and have reliable internet access complete required training The American Cancer Society takes your safety seriously and has implemented new guidelines to minimize COVID-19 risks to patients and volunteer drivers. All volunteer drivers are strongly encouraged to stay up to date with COVID vaccinations. What’s often standing between people with cancer and lifesaving treatment is a ride to get there. And we need you now more than ever. Connect with us at cancer.org/drive to learn more about Road To Recovery volunteer opportunities in your area or contact Jen at jen.burdette@cancer.org.
