Momentum Collective Inc. is partnering with the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Alexandria City Public Schools, and Alexandria Department of Recreation, to provide an after-school arts program to elementary and middle school youth who live in Alexandria, VA. The drama/acting instructor will teach beginner level youth the fundamentals of acting and prepare them to perform monologues and skits for performing arts showcases during the school year as well as musical productions. Volunteers will also receive support on how to incorporate academic elements into the acting classes. This opportunity is for one hour between 4:00pm and 6:00pm, and site location will be dependent on availability. The opportunity will require direct and in-person interaction with youth. Areas of focus include: Improv Method acting Character development Practical aesthetics Blocking Social media video skits Program participants will also be featured in a web-series that will be created during the program year. Group size will not exceed 12 participants. Volunteers must be comfortable working with youth from various socio-economic backgrounds. We prioritize practical aesthetics as our pedagogy but welcome additional schools-of-though around dramatic instruction.

Momentum Collective Inc. is partnering with the Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities to provide an after-school arts program to elementary and middle school youth in Alexandria, VA. The music instructor will teach beginner level youth the fundamentals of vocal performance, and engage youth in singing music from multiple genres. We place a strong emphasis on cultural competence, with a view to adequately prepare youth to perform in multiple public settings within the city, including musical productions. This opportunity is for 1 hour a week, from 4:00-5:00pm, and day of availability will determine the specific site location. This opportunity requires direct and in-person interaction with youth.

The dance instructor will teach beginner level youth the fundamentals of dance, with a focus on urban-contemporary movements and world dances. Backgrounds in modern dance and ballet are also welcomed. Instructors will teach several choreographed routines in preparation for performing arts showcases, twice during the school year. Volunteers will receive support on how to incorporate academic elements into the dance classes. Each session is for 1-hour between the 3:30pm and 5:00pm block and will require direct and in-person interaction with youth. Available days are dependent on service site location. Group size will not exceed 15 participants. Volunteers must be comfortable working with youth from various socio-economic backgrounds. We will provide a small stipend to instructors.

Virtual Opportunity
We are looking for talented and technically skilled individuals who have construction expertise that can be easily translated into the design and building of various set pieces needed for numerous theatrical productions. Prospective individuals need to have access to their own equipment and we are able to lease a workshop space for upcoming projects. Transportation of set pieces will be covered by us. Once built, volunteers should have the capacity to assist with the load-in, and set up at the performance venue, and provide guidance to other volunteers, many unskilled, who will be assisting with the assembly as well as the deconstruction of the set. Background in construction is highly preferred. Our productions fund our community outreach work, so your involvement will be making a very real impact in the lives of underserved youth in the community.

Momentum Collective Inc., is seeking assistance with identifying grants and similar external funding opportunities for our organization. We are looking to ramp up efforts to secure federal, state and foundation grant funding for our various initiatives and programs. Familiarity with our overall operation will improve the ability to identify suitable funding opportunities. Individuals would be asked to help scour the internet, foundation databases, and granting sites to identify potential grants that targets the mission and service population of Momentum Collective Inc. These include: Performing arts Youth services Education Leadership development Minorities Low-income Outdoor camping First generation college student scholarships For this opportunity, volunteers can work virtually and will communicate directly with the executive director. If volunteer has experience in grant writing, he/she may work alongside the executive director in crafting grant applications for identified funding opportunities. Volunteers must be comfortable using computing equipment, able to effective utilize internet search tools, be familiar with Google Drive, and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
