The Santiam Heritage Foundation is comprised of a dedicated group of people who have volunteered thousands of hours to preserve one of Stayton's oldest homes (built in 1903). The original far-sighted volunteers almost literally saved the house from the "wrecker's ball." After 15 years of dedicated work, they have come about half way to rehabilitating the house to its original glory. The work has been funded only by private donations and grants. It is being used for community events and private family affairs, and has become a shining addition to the downtown area. This group is worth supporting and there is always room for more volunteers! Bring your skills and your heart and join in this fun and wonderful project!

This is an incredible project that has used the volunteer efforts of dozens of people over the past 15 years to save a historic landmark and rehabilitate it as a cultural and educational community resource. It is always in need of a variety of skills, and everyone is very appreciative of the time and efforts given by volunteers. This is truly a grassroots effort that has made incredible progress-- and still has a ways to go to fulfill the original vision. Even though I have only been involved for the last couple of months, I have been impressed with those who have gone before me and those that still volunteer their time and money to keep the progress going. Very worthwhile.
