Hedonisia Hawaii EcoFeminist Community was tucked away in the rainforests of the Big Island, Hawaii. We offered a unique volunteer program that allowed visitors to enjoy an affordable stay in paradise working on projects aligned with their ideals.

Our community focussed on female empowerment with programs that supported gender equality on the web and on our beautiful pre-volcano 4-acre property.

The Kilauea volcanic eruption destroyed Hedonisia Hawaii on May 26, 2018. 75% of the property is now covered in lava.

We are documenting our history, working on our post-volcano projects, and plans for our rebirth.

We are seeking a volunteer to create a documentary about our history, the volcano's destruction of Hedonisia, the projects we manage, and the way we have evolved into an online community with a global focus.

We want to use Hedonisia photos and videos from our archives with photos and footage of our post-volcano plans.

We can share the Hedonisia photo albums so you have the raw material to work with. We want a volunteer who is comfortable communicating by phone so that we can discuss the project.

If you decide to stop before the project is complete, you can share your video project files with us so we can continue working from where you left off.

Our goal is to produce an information video that tells the Hedonisia story from our birth to rebirth.

Biography
The evolution of Hedonisia is also related to the evolution of its founder Mojo Mustapha. It was a culmination of his years of traveling in the world learning about feminism in different cultures. So the video is also an autobiographical story.

As part of our post-volcano rebirth, we are seeking a long-term volunteer who would like to help us manage and add content to our new YouTube channel.

Mission Statement

Our community is based on the principle of 'pleasurable activism'. We try to do our bit to 'save the world' but also enjoy ourselves at the same time. It is why we call our community 'Hedonisia'. We have fun in paradise but are not blind to the world's problems. Though our physical community was destroyed in the 2018 Kilauea volcano eruption we continue our work online. In the Hedonisia Lava to Lotus Web Portfolio, we work on a portfolio of activist, ecofeminist and social entrepreneur projects with the assistance of volunteers from across the globe.

Description

Hedonisia Hawaii EcoFeminist Community was started in 2004 in the Hawaiian rainforest. Our community was based on ecofeminism and ecotourism as our social and economic foundations.

Though our community was small, the projects we work on have a global reach. We are idealist and pragmatic seeking entrepreneurial and creative solutions to various challenges we face in the world.

In 2018, Hedonisia Hawaii was destroyed by lava flow from the Kilauea volcanic eruption. Undeterred, we continue work on the many creative projects that were born at our pre-volcano community.

There is a one-acre green zone on the property, that did not get covered by lava. This is known as a Kipuka in the Hawaiian language. We are preparing to return to our land by slowly planting and landscaping on our Kipuka.

In the meanwhile, our community is now virtual. Over five hundred volunteers from around the world have worked on the various projects in the Hedonisia Lava to Lotus Portfolio.
