Opportunities with the Holland Museum, Archives & Research Library, Cappon & Settlers House
Opportunities to Work with the Public:
- Museum Guides & Education Docents greet visitors and give tours of the galleries and house museums. According to their level of training, they may orient visitors or give in-depth tours. Education Docents give tours to school children and adults on a variety of topics.
- Special Event Volunteers are "on call" for occasional activities open to the public, where a helping hand may be needed to greet and count visitors, distribute materials and assist with crafts, games, and instruction.
- Photographers are needed to attend special events and public programming. Images are used on the Museum's website, in print material, monthly newsletters, etc. Photographers are also sometimes needed to document the Museum's collections and exhibitions.
Opportunities to Work Behind the Scenes:
- Archives/Collections Volunteers assist in the inventory and cataloging of the Museum's collections. This is a great opportunity to view items that have never been on display.
- Exhibition Volunteers help to move artifacts, paint galleries, and produce exhibit labels.
- Mailing/Administrative Office Assistants are "on call" to help assemble mailings, involving stuffing and labeling envelopes. Other clerical jobs may include answering the telephone, taking messages, and photocopying.
- Landscaping/Grounds and House Volunteers help with maintenance projects such as exterior painting, as well as planting and maintaining historic gardens.

Description
Three Museums Tell The Story of Holland's Settlement
Holland, Michigan’s three museums - the Holland Museum, the Cappon House Museum, and the Settlers House Museum - are located within a few city blocks of each other.
The Holland Museum features permanent exhibits on Holland's history "from settlement to city" and over 400 years of Dutch History in our Dutch Galleries. On its lower level, the Archives and Research Library houses the museum's collection of books, papers and photographs related to Holland's history.
The Cappon and Settlers Houses, a few blocks to the West, enhance the story of Holland's early settlers with the beautifully preserved and restored living environments of a common worker's family and that of Holland's first mayor.
