Do you remember having a mentor when you were young? We all remember that one person who inspired us or changed our lives in some way. Now YOU can be that person for a student in your own community.

Junior Achievement is a nonprofit organization with the mission of empowering young people to own their economic success. We achieve this mission by recruiting volunteers to present our programs in grades K-12.

Make a difference in the community!

We need volunteers to present our programs in Schenectady City Schools!

Our programs center around promoting skills in work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. JA uses hands-on, experiential activities to teach young people about business, economics, how to manage money, how to live within their means, and how staying in school will have a direct impact on their future.

How does it work?

Volunteering for JA is fun, flexible and rewarding. JA programs are easy to teach, require a modest time investment, and provide immediate feedback and personal satisfaction. JA provides volunteers with everything they need to be successful in the classroom, including:

Choice of elementary school that is most convenient for you

All classroom materials needed to teach the program including a step-by-step lesson plan

Training on how to use the JA materials as well as teaching and classroom management tips (The teacher will remain in the classroom at all times to assist you!)

Connection to a teacher to coordinate when you teach the JA program. (Each program consists of 5 lessons, ranging from 30-45 minutes each, depending on grade level. You may schedule these lessons with the teacher however best fits your schedules. Typically volunteers teach one lesson per week across 5 weeks)
