Hot Organic Farm!

ORGANIZATION: Seattle Works

  • 4 people are interested

Agency: Lettuce Link

Description: Provide fresh organic produce for those in need by working at Marra Farm! Lettuce Link is a creative emergency food and gardening program that meets a very basic community need. They provide fresh organic produce, vegetable seeds, plant starts, organic gardening supplies, assistance and information to low-income people throughout Seattle, helping to prevent malnutrition and connecting people with the resources they need to grow their own nutritious foods. As the cost of organic produce is prohibitive for people struggling to make ends meet; Lettuce Link - and their host, Marra Farm - fills an important role in our community.

Help with necessary farm maintenance by weeding, harvesting vegetables, creating paths, fixing fences, hauling wood chips, doing minor repairs and other tasks necessary to keep the garden going. This project is one of Seattle Works favorites. Volunteers have found that tending and maintaining the garden is a fun and satisfying way to make a difference!

Mission Statement

To inform, connect, and inspire people in their 20s and 30s to take action in our community.

Description

Team Works is the A-Team of the volunteer world. Sign up for a team and take on four volunteer projects - one project per month - focused on four different issue areas. Teams kick off in February, June and October. Hot Projects are one-off volunteer opps without all that long-term commitment. There's at least one project every weekend, plus we throw in a few weekday or weeknight opportunities in each month too. It's easy and you can get involved right away! Gulf Coast Trips are intensive, week-long service opportunities that put you front and center in the post-Katrina rebuilding efforts. Corporate Service Projects enable you and your colleagues to take advantage of our expertise in managing team-based volunteer opportunities. Top companies contract with Seattle Works to get their employees connected.
