Are you someone who has a passion for helping those in need? Do you want to make a positive difference in your community? Look no further! Do you want to join a team of loyal volunteers with a calling to assist others in times of need? The Victim Services Unit of Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) seeks dedicated community members to join us as Volunteer Victim Advocates.
Volunteer Victim Advocates will perform work as a call-out advocate assisting, supporting and/or providing crisis intervention and comfort to victims and witnesses of crimes as well as other traumatic events reported to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Advocates respond immediately on scene after being called by dispatch and may refer victims and witnesses to supportive agency programs, will serve as liaisons between the victim and/or witness with law enforcement agencies, and provide follow-up assistance to address victims' needs. Advocates also assist victims by notifying them of their rights under state laws and assist victims with applications for Crime Victim Compensation.
The volunteer advocate will be on call during evening hours Monday-Friday 6pm - 6am. Weekend shifts are from 6am Saturday to 6am Sunday and from Sunday 6am to Monday 6am. There is no need to have the advocate at the office during their shift; the advocate can respond from their home when dispatch calls.
Please reach out to us with ANY questions we would love to answer!!
