Description
Heart of the Valley, SERVICES FOR SENIORS, Inc. (HOV) is a volunteer agency that recruits volunteers to act as a helpful, friendly neighbor would, to help seniors stay independent in their lives. Our volunteers help by providing a wide variety of services for them to utilize. All services are offered at no cost to the senior.
HOV began in 1987, has two part-time staff, approx. 800 senior clients and a little over 200 volunteers. Volunteers choose their availability, types of services they would like to help with, and which areas they will serve clients in. Our service areas include the cities of Santa Clara, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, Los Gatos, Campbell and the West San Jose zip codes of 95117, 95125, 95126, 95128, 95129 and 95130.
During the pandemic, we continued to provide our outdoor services, as we ramped up our Friendly Caller program to all seniors who called in, our Vaccine Angels scheduled vaccination and transportation appointments, to and from vaccination sites, and ordered COVID test kits, high school students wrote pen pal letters, and our volunteers made sure our clients had very happy holidays.
HOV began In-Home services in May, 2022 and Medical Transportation in March, 2023 and is fully open, providing services to our growing list of seniors.
