- Read Santa Clara, the adult literacy program of the Santa Clara City Library, needs volunteer literacy tutors. Volunteer tutors work with adult learners to improve their basic reading, writing and/or math skills. Volunteers must be 18 years or older, proficient at speaking, reading and writing English at a high school level or above and need to commit to tutor for 2 hours a week for a minimum period of six months. No teaching experience needed! Orientation and tutor training provided. Volunteers need to get fingerprint clearance and comply with other requirements. Volunteers need to participate in 10 hours of free tutor training over Zoom (along with 1-2 hours of self-study.)
Volunteers tutor adult learners 1:1 or in small groups, in-person or virtually.

Tutor Training will be held on Monday and Thursday mornings, 9:30 am- 12 noon (over Zoom) on 9/12, 9/16, 9/19 and 10/21.

Read Santa Clara trains and supports community volunteers to provide free one-on-one and small group tutoring to adults who can speak English but need help with basic reading, writing and /or math skills.
Description
Read Santa Clara's trained volunteer tutors serve over 100 adult learners in a year, helping them achieve their goals as family members, workers, community members and lifelong learners. Tutoring takes place at one of three Santa Clara City Library branches and in other public places within the City of Santa Clara.
