Reading opens doors to the world.
We teach adults to read. We support literacy efforts in all areas of life. Hey- you need to read to be able to use the internet.

When you help an adult learn to read, you help the whole family. After training, the tutor and the learner make their own schedule. It is not necessary to know a second language to become a tutor.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Corpus Christi Literacy Council is to identify, develop, promote, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive programs and resources that will measurably reduce functional illiteracy in the Corpus Christi Bay Area.

Description

This is a private non-profit agency offering tutoring and classes. We train volunteer tutors and match them with a waiting learner. Our group classes include various levels of adult basic reading, and also English as a second language. When we have a volunteer who can do so, we offer computer classes, citizenship classes, and more.

We collaborate with many organizations to break the cycle of low literacy.
