Do you know how to be a good friend? Then you might make a good Compeer volunteer! As a volunteer with our nonprofit program, you can boost another person's self-esteem, reduce loneliness, and increase their well-being as they deal with mental health challenges. It takes as little as 4 hours per month.
Volunteers receive training and can choose their friend. Pairs are matched up based on shared interests, location, and other factors. After you meet your friend, staff provide ongoing support. Occasional group events give you a chance to spend time with other matched Compeer friends too.
You and your friend decide the times you meet or talk. Activities can include whatever safe activities you and your friend choose, such as meeting for coffee or a meal, taking a walk, shopping, or going to a community event.
Through the gift of friendship, you will gain a sense of satisfaction and personal growth and have the opportunity to help another person.

Mission Statement
To connect adults living with mental health challenges with caring, trained volunteers for one-to-one friendships, thereby boosting self-esteem, easing isolation, and maximizing community integration.
Description
We match community volunteers in one-to-one friendships with adults in mental health recovery who can use some extra support! Compeer Chester County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is a program of Mental Health Partnerships (mentalhealthpartnerships.org). We are also affiliated with Compeer International (compeer.org).
Sharing activities and conversation with a supportive friend has been shown to help a person with a mental health diagnosis feel more positive and hopeful -- and less isolated. Friendships build confidence and boost self-esteem, both vital for someone on their road toward recovery.
Compeer is supported by the Chester County Department of Mental Health/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (MH/IDD) and private donations.
Compeer Chester County's vision is that way people view persons with mental illness will be changed; persons in mental health recovery will feel more included in their communities, and their lives will be transformed by connecting them with one real friend.
