Do you love second hand stores? Have a knack for retail sales? Then this volunteer opportunity is PERFECT for you! Second Chance Thrift Shoppe at 44 Stephen Street in Lemont gives 100% of their profits to Garden Center in Burbank, an agency that serves 150 persons with autism, Down syndrome, and other developmental disabilities with work and living opportunities.

Second Chance Thrift Shoppe prides itself on being one of the cleanest, brightest thrift shops in the Chicago area, with top quality clothing and household items.

Because there is so much to learn and share at the Thrift Shoppe, volunteers are asked to donate a minimum of 3 hours per week.

Description

Since 1956, Garden Center has been a leader in human services by helping persons with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental disabilities enjoy lives of independence through therapeutic, residential, and vocational supports.

Garden Center Services serves 150 individuals with developmental disabilities through residential and vocational services. By managing 11 residences: 10 group homes, known as Community-Integrated Living Arrangements (CILAs) and 1 Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) that include nursing services for individuals with developmental disabilities who have more medically-based needs, Garden Center is able to help individuals with developmental disabilities achieve independent living. Vocational opportunities offered include vocational and life-skills programs, a thriving Thrift Shoppe, and supported employment opportunities throughout the community.
