The Friends of Hemlock Bluffs are sponsoring their annual "Recyle Yard Sale" this October. There will be 2 drop-off days for people to donate items & receive a tax donation slip--Thursday, Oct. 29th 10:00 am through 6:00 pm and Friday, Oct. 30th 10:00 am through 6:00 pm. (These 2 days volunteers are needed to sort donated items and set up specific areas e.g. clothes, books, linens, etc.) These 2 days volunteers work to prepare for the sale on Saturday, Oct. 31st 8:00 am through 1:00 pm. All leftover items are donated to charities. Coffee and donates are sold the morning of the sale. It's a great time to shop and possibly find some unique treasures, Halloween costumes for trick or treating, clothes for yourself or the children, toys, bikes, books, etc. [We do not accept computers, printers, software, tires, firearms, white goods (stoves, refrigerators, washers etc.) and exercise equipment.] All monies made from the sale help to purchase resources for Stevens Nature Center at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve in Cary and also to sponsor events.
Please call or email if you are able to assist in sorting, etc. on the 2 drop-off days. Thank you!

Description
In the 1970's a group formed to protect the land know today as Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve. In 1995, the Cary Woman's Cluf provided infrastructure and officers to begin creating a new support volunteer organization for Hemlock Bluffs and the Nature Center. In 2001, Board Members felt that local citizens sholuld know that this organization's mission is to support the nature center, the nature preserve, and the environmental education programs/events and projects. At this time, the Board adopted the name The Friends of Hemlock Bluffs. Since then the FOHB have started a paver project for anyone to remember or honor a family member, love one, friend, etc. and as of today approximately 121 pavers are in the center of the nature center courtyard. Also the FOHB have purchased three garden art items which can be found in the courtyard gardens (dragonfly, butterfly, & spider). The Friends are able to do these projects through a group effort and many volunteers each fall with their annual Recycle Yard Sale where profits help with all they do for the preserve and nature center. Last year the Friends even started a scholarship program ($50) to be used for programs at Hemlock Bluffs.
