Becca's Closet is a non-profit organization that donates formal dresses to high school girls who would be unable to attend their homecomings, proms and military balls without our help. We also work with special needs schools and organizations like Best Buddies. We'd like to give you a little more information to help you decide if you would enjoy volunteering for our organization.
In the South Florida area, we work all year collecting gowns and dresses that are appropriate to wear to high school homecomings, proms and military balls. All of the dresses are donated to us by individuals, manufacturers and retailers. The dresses are brand new or gently worn. In the South Florida area, dresses are distributed seasonally from our main location (which looks just like a regular store) at the Festival Marketplace Mall, in Pompano Beach. Girls who need dresses contact us by phone or through our web site and we schedule appointments for them to select dresses.
Our volunteers are middle, high school girls, and adults who act as each girl's personal shopper. Many times, this dress will be the first one a girl has ever owned, and it can be a very special experience for both the volunteer and the girl. The work requires patience and compassion. But you don't need to have an eye for fashion to spot the look on a girl's face when she finds the "perfect dress". You just know it! Only females are permitted to work with the girls in the fitting room area, but there are lots of opportunities for guys to act as our "Gate Keepers" by welcoming and logging in the girls as they arrive at their appointments, and by keeping order outside of the storefront by keeping track of who is waiting for their appointments.
Throughout the year, we receive dress donations, and at times, need help sorting, hanging and organizing the dresses to make sure that each dress is in great condition and ready-to-wear. Approximately two months before Homecoming season (end of August) and Prom season (late February) we begin to schedule appointments. Since most of our volunteers are students or have jobs, we usually schedule the appointments for weekends, usually beginning at 10:00 AM and ending at 2:00 PM. During season, we send out weekly emails requesting volunteers for a specific date. You can choose to work a full day, or just a couple of hours...whatever works for you. We will also request volunteers during the year to sort dresses and organize our storefront and storage area at the Festival Marketplace. Please respond to our emails if you are available. If your plans change and you can't be there, just email us to let us know. We rely completely on our volunteers to help the girls select their dresses. Students should be eligible for community service hours through their schools. Hours usually require the school's preapproval. We appreciate whatever time you can give!
If you're a middle or high school girl, check out the Becca's Closet Involvement Scholarship opportunities available for long term involvement: https://www.beccascloset.org/scholarships.
We hope this gives you more insight into what a difference a Becca's Closet volunteer can make. If you would like to be placed on our South Florida volunteer email list, complete the form on http://eepurl.com/Q1LPv.
If at any time you would like to be removed from our volunteer list, no problem, simply unsubscribe.
We look forward to your involvement.

Description
Get on our South Florida volunteer email list at http://eepurl.com/Q1LPv& we will let you know whenever we need help!
Our volunteers help high school girls with financial need select free dresses for homecoming, prom, military ball or other formal high school events. It is very rewarding! All dresses, shoes and accessories have been donated by manufacturers, retailers and individuals. We collect donations throughout the year in order to keep our "Closets" stocked with dresses in current styles.
There are many Becca's Closet volunteer-led chapters throughout the United States, and they all welcome volunteers with a passion for helping young women participate their high school celebrations. Chapters distribute dresses, help increase public awareness and hold local dress drives to keep their "Closets" stocked and encourage support from their communities. You do not have to be a member of a chapter to volunteer.
The Becca's Closet foundation also awards scholarships annually to deserving high school seniors throughout the country who demonstrate Becca's spirit of generosity.
