Can you see yourself teaming up with an adult to work on their basic reading, writing or conversation skills? Are you interested in meeting new people and making a positive contribution to our community? If so, become a literacy volunteer and help adults become more confident and better able to navigate everyday situations. Volunteers have the option of meeting one-to-one or with small groups. An effective volunteer is respectful, patient and encouraging.

Qualifications:

  • Flexible, friendly, patient, optimistic and reliable
  • Comfortable reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • No previous experience necessary.

After successfully completing training, volunteers are teamed with adults and typically meet once or twice a week for one to two hours each meeting.

For more information or to sign-up for training visit the Literacy Office at the Civic Center Library, call (925) 373-5507 or email literacy@livermoreca.gov.
