ORGANIZATION: New Horizons Ministries
Please visit the new page to apply.
New Horizons provides services to youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in our community between the ages of 18 and 25. At our shelter, we provide three meals a day including lunch and dinner, offer access to self-care facilities (showers, laundry, clothing, haircuts) and provide 30 emergency shelter beds 7 nights per week. Additionally, our case management team assists with everything from securing housing to job coaching and financial literacy, and our city contracts allow us to host free medical clinics, mental health counseling, and dental care on site. Above all, New Horizons provides a safe and welcoming space for this at-risk population of Seattle youth and young adults.
Direct Service Volunteers interact directly with youth and young adults in the shelter. DST Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in multiple activities including arts and crafts, games, employment services, karaoke singing, and dinner with young adults. DST Volunteers will go through a 1 1/2 hour Direct Service Volunteer Training / Orientation before volunteering in the shelter. Volunteers must pass a background check. DST Volunteers will work directly with Day Program Staff.Volunteer shift for this opportunity -

Mission Statement
New Horizons Ministries is a multi-cultural organization whose mission is to be in relationship with homeless and street-involved youth, serving and loving in the way of Jesus, equipping them to leave street life.
Description
New Horizons Ministries began in 1978 in response to the growing number of homeless adolescents living on the streets of Seattle. What started as a program of street outreach has evolved over the years into an entire continuum of care, with an emphasis on relationship building.
The staff of New Horizons, both paid and volunteer, establish relationships with youth through street outreach as well as by providing meals, clothing, and other emergency services. New Horizons also provides case management, relational counseling, recreational activities, job mentoring, life discovery classes, and a comprehensive referral system. All of these services are designed to equip youth with the life skills, confidence, and sense of community that are vital for them to successfully exit street life.
