Welcoming New Docents!

No Experience Necessary! - Just a Smile, Kind Heart and Your Time!

Docents are trained to introduce tour groups to the Whittier Museum's special and permanent exhibits using a variety of techniques that encourage the visitors to look at, discuss and gain insight into the first 100 years of Whittier's history. The museum features interactive exhibits, models and artifacts from antiquity to contemporary periods. Our goal is to provide education and foster an enjoyment of Whittier history in our visitors.

Weeday docents have their choice of availability and will be contacted as needed depending on schduled tours. If you'd like to volunteer on weekends, docents have thier choice of Fridays or Saturdays, 1 to 4pm.

Docents must be prepared to provide tours to diverse audiences including; school children, young adults, educators, seniors, visitors with special needs, and those for who English is not their first language.

The Whittier Museum seeks to provide education and foster an enjoyment of Whittier history in our visitors. The purpose of the Whittier Historical Society is to: Discover, collect, preserve, and display objects, documents, photographs, literary or artistic works, and other articles or materials which may establish or illustrate the history of Whittier, the Whittier area, and the State of California . Maintain the Whittier Museum and the Museum's Collections for the education and enjoyment of the general public, as well as for research. Publish and disseminate information to promote appreciation and enjoyment of the above by the widest possible number of residents of the Whittier area.
