Volunteer Opportunity Overview:
We are seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Food Rescue Transport team! As a Food Rescue Transporter, you will play a crucial role in our mission by transporting surplus food from donors-such as local grocery stores, farms, and restaurants-to our community partners across NYC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pick up food donations from designated locations.
  • Deliver rescued food to community partners, including public housing complexes and other nonprofit organizations.
  • Ensure proper handling and care of food items during transportation.
  • Maintain clear communication with Gotham Food Pantry staff regarding schedules and deliveries.
  • Log donation weights and deliveries into our tracking system.

Requirements:

  • Access to a vehicle is preferred but not required. Volunteers without a vehicle may use a cart for transporting food within their neighborhood.
  • A valid driver’s license (if using a vehicle).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Availability to commit to at least one shift per week (flexible scheduling available).
  • A positive attitude and commitment to reducing food waste and fighting hunger.
