Description
Response and Preparedness in Disasters-(RAPID-Tanzania) is a Non-Governmental Organization registered in March 2021 under the NGOs Act, 2002 with Registration No 00NGO/R/1785. The organization deals with disasters management activities (Prevention and Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, Recovery and Reconstruction). Members are from different professions background. who have been trained in disaster management. RAPID - Tanzania also works closely with volunteers' groups, organizations and government departments dealing with Disaster Management, i.e., Tanzania Red Cross Society, Kova Foundation, Disaster Management Department in the Prime Minister’s Office Fire and Rescue Departments and Disaster Management centre at the Ardhi university. Currently, RAPID -Tanzania is implementing the project on Fire preparedness in secondary schools, planning to reach more than 50 secondary schools in five regions of Tanzania. The project objectives are 1. To create awareness among teachers and students through training and sensitization on fire preparedness/response at secondary school’s level,2. To enhance emergency preparedness through installation of firefighting equipment and supply of firefighting gears and 3. To create sustainable environment for evacuation of students and staffs in safety and dignity in case of fire outbreak. Another project in pipeline is domestic fire response and preparedness for women at household level in Dar es salaam. This project is planning to target more than 500 women/households and reach more than 2500 household members.
