Join Mid Sound Fisheries, the City of Auburn, and your community members as we continue Martin Luther King Jr's legacy of service by restoring the shores of the Green-Duwamish River at Fenster Park! We will be removing invasive blackberry and planting native trees and shrubs. Trees are beneficial to us because they provide oxygen and forests for us to spend time in, but trees also help keep rivers clean, clear, and cold- all qualities that salmon need to be healthy. We will send an email containing more details before the event.
Meet us at the North Entrance of Fenster by navigating to the address provided, also know as the Big Bend Entrance. The event will begin with a brief discussion that includes information about the site, the partnering organizations, why this work is important, tool use, and safety. We will provide work gloves, all instructions, and all tools. Please plan to arrive on time for the start of the event and allow extra time to find parking. Everyone is welcome, but anyone under 18 needs to fill out and bring to the event the attached Youth Waiver. Thank you!
Covid-19 Safety Protocol: Before arriving at the event please check your temperature. If it is above 100.4 degrees please stay home. Please stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms such as cough, sore throat, loss of taste and/or smell Masks will be worn within six feet of each other, otherwise they are optional (we will also have extra single-use masks if needed) We will maintain physical distance throughout the day. We will provide a hand washing and sanitation station on site. We will provide water, but please bring a water bottle so as to reduce our use of single-use plastics! Mission Statement
Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group works to involve local people in projects that will ensure a future for wild salmon.
Description
Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group is dedicated to helping landowners and communities protect their local fish. We practice fisheries and stream restoration in the King and Kitsap Counties in Washington State. Our service area includes the Green/Duwamish River watershed, the Lake Washington/Cedar River watershed, isolated streams flowing into Puget Sound in King County, and all watersheds in eastern Kitsap County. We use habitat restoration projects - such as streamside fencing, native tree planting, and fish passage improvements - as catalysts to building community partnerships. As one of 14 Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups in Washington State, we are part of a coordinated effort to restore fish habitat in the state.
