Dear Volunteers,
Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts trains volunteers to provide free, individualized, and confidential tutoring to adults in the areas of literacy (basic reading skills for native and proficient/fluent English speakers) and ESOL (English for speakers of other languages). Tutoring occurs in-person or, with some of our English Learners, online.
You do not have to have any experience teaching or tutoring to be a successful tutor. We run free 18-hour Basic Literacy and ESOL trainings throughout the year. Our next online basic literacy training starts Saturday January 18, 2025. We will host another in March 2025 and an ESOL training later in the spring 2025.
To find out more about these trainings and other opportunities throughout the year, sign up for an upcoming volunteer information session by pressing I Want to Help! Sessions will be held on 12/27 at 12, 1/2 at 6, 1/3 at noon, 1/8 at 6, 1/9 at 12, 1/13 at 6.
You may also text, email, or call me for general information about our program.
I look forward to hearing from you. We have a long list of adults waiting to be tutored, so every tutor counts.
Sincerely,
Eleanor Stafford

Mission Statement
Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts (LVM) believes in the power of literacy to transform lives and communities. Since 1972, LVM has trained volunteer tutors to provide free, confidential and individualized tutoring to adults in basic reading and writing, and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
Description
LVM volunteers help adults acquire the literacy and English language skills that empower them to realize their goals. By improving their basic skills through tutoring, adults are better able to meet life's challenges, be self-sufficient, provide for their families, help their children with homework, read a daily newspaper, enjoy more independence and gain self-confidence.
