As a Blood Services Transportation Specialist, you will be a hero by delivering life-saving blood donations to local hospitals, directly helping patients in need. Using our user-friendly mobile app, you can easily choose times that work for you (both scheduled or on-demand) and make deliveries ensuring that blood, platelets, and other critical supplies get to the hospital swiftly. You’ll be a vital part of our Regional Biomedical Services team, making a tangible impact every day. Every trip you make saves lives!
Responsibilities:
- Help save lives by transporting life-saving blood or blood products to local hospitals and help patients in need.
- Stay connected using the Red Cross Delivers mobile app on your smartphone to efficiently navigate between delivery sites and quickly get blood products to hospital customers in urgent need.
- Lend a hand by collecting empty boxes from hospitals and returning them to distribution sites as needed.
- Support our mission by delivering essential supplies to blood collection sites as required.
- Keep us organized by completing electronic documentation accurately.
- Be our voice by communicating feedback from customers or reporting any urgent issues to Red Cross staff.
- Drive with care and represent the American Red Cross with pride and responsibility.
Time Commitment: Volunteers use the Red Cross Delivers mobile app to manage their time commitment/schedule in this role. In the app, volunteers can schedule their shifts in advance and can also indicate if they’re available for last minute "Urgent Deliveries."
Shifts are available throughout the day, but evening shifts (flexible between 3pm-7pm) are especially needed, as well as mid-drive Blood Drive pickups. Mid-drive Blood Drive pickups typically involve driving 20-50 miles as volunteers pick up blood products from a Blood Drive that’s taking place in the community and driving the products to the Red Cross Blood Center at 8th and Spring Garden St in Philadelphia.
All shifts/routes either start or end at the Red Cross Blood Center at 8th and Spring Garden Sts in Philadelphia.
We’re looking for volunteers who are interested/available for 2-4 shifts per month.
