- Lead Seasonal Setup and Cleanup: Take charge of cleaning and setting up the Purple Martin gourd rack in the spring, and cleaning and storing it in the fall.
- Monitor Activity: Regularly check the vertical gourds for Purple Martin activity and potential predators.
Where: Hidden Lake Gardens pond area
When: Spring through Fall
Why: This project is for public display and educational purposes, enhancing the experience for Hidden Lake Gardens visitors.
Who We're Looking For: We are seeking a group of Purple Martin enthusiasts who can share their knowledge and experiences in managing, maintaining, and monitoring our Purple Martin vertical gourd rack.

To maintain and improve Hidden Lake Gardens for the benefit and education of the public. To instill an appreciation of plants, gardens, landscapes, and the natural environment. To display collections of plants that are of horticultural, botanical, and aesthetic value to the public, to students, and to professionals of various disciplines. To interpret the collections and grounds and utilize them for the educational benefit of the public. To preserve an undeveloped area of the scenic Irish Hills, providing a place of beauty and inspiration for public enjoyment.
Description
Hidden Lake Gardens is a botanical garden on 755 acres (3.06 km 2) and an arboretum operated by Michigan State University situated in the Irish Hills of southeast Michigan. The Gardens are known for their large collection of native and nonnative trees, shrubs and flowers. HLG was given to Michigan State University by Harry Fee in 1945. Today it is visited by nearly 45,000 people annually.
