Volunteers are vital to the success of Cancer Lifeline.They expand the capacity of our staff by supporting callers on our Lifeline and by helping with various administrative tasks. Volunteers provide a wide range of specialized talents and skills, and we depend on their energy and enthusiasm. We invite you to become a volunteer!
Administrative volunteers provide hands-on support to staff to ensure smooth office operations. This includes moderating our online classes via Zoom, professional mailing projects, conducting thank you calls to our donors, and outreach tabling events.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Class Moderator Description: Provide moderation of our online classes. This supports our clients and can be an opportunity to get to know them. Volunteers also benefit as it provides the opportunity to learn things about nutrition, exercise & stress reduction.
Patient Financial Assistance Fund (PFAF) Check Stuffing Description: After the patient financial assistance fund applicants are approved, checks are printed and prepared with additional materials.This task typically takes between 2 - 4 hours and is done once each month.
Mailing Projects Description: Prepare large mailings of print materials (catalogs/flyers) for hospital partners. Prepare fundraising mailings with annual reports, letters or other materials.
Outreach Calls Description: Calling clients to follow up on program experiences, and/or making calls to donors to thank them for their donations.
Other Projects Description: Assist with proofreading catalogs and/or flyer or other materials before they are made public.Review website as assigned to ensure materials are accurate and up to date.
Special Events Description: Help and coordinate various tasks at the fundraising or community events.Tasks range from set-up, check-in, greeting, talk about our programs and breakdown.
Training Requirements:
Participate in a 4-hour Zoom training program. After training you will be asked to commit to volunteering 4 to 8 a month.

Since 1973, Cancer Lifeline has been a leader in providing emotional support, information and resources to those touched by cancer. Our program provides support through educational classes, nutrition programs, gentle exercise, financial navigation and a toll free telephone Lifeline Monday - Friday 9am-5pm.
Our programs are designed to support people in all stages of the cancer process and we welcome patients, survivors, their families, friends, co-workers and caregivers.
Our services are available throughout Western Washington and through our nation-wide toll free telephone Lifeline at 1-800-255-5505. Cancer Lifeline also partners wth three area hospitals: Evergreen Medical Center, Valley Medical Center and Northwest Hospital and Medical Center.
Thanks to the generosity of private donors, Cancer Lifeline's services are provided at no charge.
